accessiBe: In honor of the International Day of People with Disabilities we turned to the experts to understand... Why is web accessibility important?

Hayden Orr, Programmer and Artist: Hi, I’m Hayden Orr (in sign language).

John Kemp, CEO, Viscardi Center: Today, we rely upon the internet and the world wide web for shopping, for education, for employment, for all aspects of our daily living.

Rafi Fischer, OrCam: There really isn't anybody these days that does not interact with the web in some form

Amy Pinder, Founder, Inclusion Festival: Social activities and recreational activities

Mike Caprara, CIO, Viscardi Center: Being able to apply for, uh, for employment, being able to go for a job interview

Becca Lefanowicz, High Fives Foundation: Pressing a button and not being able to press the button because the size of the icon isn't large enough is probably the most frustrating thing ever.

Hayden Orr, Programmer, and Artist: Technology and art (in sign language).

Donnie Welch, Founder, Let's Write About: Free and appropriate education

Maegen Pierce, CEO, Breakthrough Behavior: Uh, access to positions, access to information.

Jim Gaven, Key of Awesome Music: Web accessibility is, is great for music. I mean, think you can really learn how to play an instrument just by popping on YouTube.

Mike Caprara, CIO, Viscardi Center: I was doing good. And then the phone kept going off.

Inbal Reichler, Founder, Wave-ability: So the question is again?

accessiBe: Why is web accessibility important?

Donnie Welch, Founder, Let's Write About: web accessibility is really about equal access.

John Kemp, CEO, Viscardi Center: It is not fair to people with disabilities to be put behind.

Rafi Fischer, OrCam: Just like, you know, sighted people who rely on, on online, you know, activities, websites, you know, for their daily life, really. So too do blind and visually impaired people.

Talia Chudacoff, accessiBe: But currently the only people who have access to that kind of information are people who can access the internet.

Inbal Reichler, Founder, Wave-ability: If It's not accessible over the internet you're still excluding people with disabilities, from what the internet has to offer.

Amy Pinder, Founder, Inclusion Festival: It's very, very critical that all people have an equal right to access it.

Miriam Lerner, Sign language Interpreter: There's no point to even using that word if that word doesn't apply to everyone.

Jim Gaven, Key of Awesome Music: So if we didn't have this capability, people would be kind of Sol for lack of a better way to say it.

Hayden Orr, Programmer and Artist: I have to scour the web for information and resources to help me with my projects (in sign language)

Maegen Pierce, CEO, Breakthrough Behavior: What good does unlocking their potential do if we're not able to assist them in unlocking all of the options that are available on the internet,

Jim Gaven, Key of Awesome Music: This is now the way the world is. And so we might as well adapt to it and embrace it because otherwise we'll get left behind.

Miriam Lerner, Sign language Interpreter: So, web access for everyone all the time so that communication can happen all over the world.

Maegen Pierce, CEO, Breakthrough Behavior: will actually lead to greater employment opportunities that will lead, uh, for greater accessibility, uh, to living productive lives.

Mike Caprara, CIO, Viscardi Center: We are leveling the playing field for adults and children with disabilities.

Rafi Fischer, OrCam: The best person they can be, to reach their highest potential.

Becca Lefanowicz, High Fives Foundation: It's really important for me to have, um, visual clear buttons to live my daily life and to give back.

Hayden Orr, Programmer, and Artist: I am incredibly grateful for the internet (in sign language).

accessiBe: Thank you for helping us make the web accessible, today and every day. Web accessibility is accessiBe.
