The global standard for web accessibility
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are published by the W3C and define how to make digital content accessible to people with disabilities. Two versions are currently in active use.
The established baseline
Released in 2018, WCAG 2.1 extended the prior standard with 17 new success criteria. It remains the most widely referenced version in legal and regulatory frameworks globally — including the ADA, EAA, and Section 508.

The current standard
Published in October 2023, WCAG 2.2 adds nine new success criteria and one retirement. It builds directly on 2.1, meaning conformance to 2.2 is the most comprehensive way to support a wide range of disabilities today.
